The lions and tigers and bears loose in Ohio are two counties east of Columbus.
Thank God for Licking County.
I heard about the animals being out of their cages when they broke in on TV last night. I would have known earlier if I was paying attention to Twitter.
Licking County is between Muskingum and Franklin Counties. They are looking for escaped animals in south east Licking County too.
It will be interesting to see if it is a big story on national news. It's big local news.

Looking at ActiveRain (the worlds largest real estate network) the last time anyone posted anything publicly on ActiveRain in Muskingum County was in 2009?

Hi Maureen, they just had this on the weather channel this morning. I feel bad for the neighbors and the animals that are on the loose.
Oh my. Gypsies... all become wayward on the loose.
This was just reported on the news down here in New Orleans. There was a report of a women in her house with her two small children llistening to a lion all night long. This was her worst nightmare. They reported that about 25 animals have either been shot or recovered.
The 25 number is from the news conference with the sheriff last night at 9:30. I am sure there has been more located. Also with The Wilds and the Columbus Zoo and Ohio Wildlife involved they are able to tranquilize and capture animals rather than "shoot to kill."
The next news conference with the sheriff will be 10 AM so I am not sure that number will change until then. Edit it changed. They are saying 30 to 35 have been killed or captured.

Wow .... I don't think that I have ever heard about that many wild animals escaping at once. This is quite a story.
There is a lot more to the story, I think.
Maureen, it sounds like it was intentional (owner dead, gates open)- Ohio needs to toughen up on exotic animal laws. We had a rickety circus with exotic animals here years ago, and I didn't leave the house until they left town. I'd be fine with a giraffe in my back yard; a lion, not so much...

Ya think? We had a law for a short time in 2010 (?) but it was unenforceable? Politics. Jack Hanna said we were about 6 months away from a law that would be enforceable.
I feel sorry for the animals. It was on the late news here in Sacramento. Hopefully they can save many of the animals and place them where they will be safe.
Jack Hanna said the primates and other animals that could be saved are under the care of the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds.
Maureen, they've been talking about it on the Detroit area news all day.
Mike I think there is a bill (proposal?) to make your MI laws about animals more lax. More like ours.... or at least looser so it is in the best interest of those opposed to be sure everyone is paying attention to this.
Down to one monkey and one wolf missing. They think. At 10 they said there was a mountain lion, a grizzly and a monkey missing. No mention of a wolf then.
