Riverlea a tradition of confusion
People think Riverlea is a lovely Worthington neighborhood. Riverlea is not a Worthington neighborhood yet. Riverlea is seeking annexation into the City of Worthington.
Riverlea is not a Worthington neighborhood yet.
I'd missed reading Dispatch Politics article about the possibility of Riverlea being annexed to Worthington. People are quoted as not realizing Riverlea was NOT Worthington.
In Time to Join the Fold by Mark Ferenchik.
Ferenchik quotes Riverlea residents in December 2010:
"I thought it was Worthington."
Three people who bought homes in Riverlea, a sleepy village hugging the Olentangy River, all said something to that effect last week when asked what brought them to the community."
The Village of Riverlea was established in 1939, much later than the Village of Worthington in 1803. Riverlea has a Village Council and a Mayor.
Can you read the sign? Village of Riverlea. It is a real Village, not a neighborhood named "Village."
Riverlea is one of very few real villages left in Central Ohio. Things named "Village" now that's another matter.
If you are reading this on 'Worthington Old and News' and are confused... there are neighborhoods described as "Worthington schools, Columbus taxes." Areas in the Worthington City School District but not in the City of Worthington. There are lots of neighborhoods in the City of Columbus and unincorporated areas that are in Worthington schools.
