Buckeye Chuck the official groundhog for the state of Ohio will be predicting whether we get six more weeks of winter or have an early spring this year.

Buckeye Chuck is up in Marion Ohio, north of Columbus. The News from the Marion Star about Buckeye Chuck's appearance going into the big day, Wednesday, February 2, 2011.
If Buckeye Chuck sees his shadow we have six more weeks of winter.
If Buckeye Chuck does not see his shadow, he is predicting an early spring.
We are supposed to have freezing rain Tuesday into Wednesday... will Buckeye Chuck even want to come out of his den?
Do you believe in Buckeye Chucks ability to forecast Ohio weather?
Columbus Ohio is Buckeye Chuck Territory

Nice post
Maureen,
I never knew Ohio had its own winter forecasting woodchuck. With the national weather report I heard, I'm thinking he will sit tight with a good book.
We've had an official state groundhog since before I moved to Ohio John... the guy next door in PA gets most of the press but weather is local.
They drag him out if he does not want to come out of his burrow on February 2 each year.
Maureen - I grew up about 30 minutes from Punxsutawney, Pa. where Phil lives. Groundhog day is always a big to-do in Punxy. I didn't know Phil had a rival in Ohio. Let's hope they both forecast an early spring.

proof the state is not promoting our official groundhog!
My significant other is from Detroit but his ancestors first settled in PA right near Puxsutwaney, and were miners. Neither of us have ever been to Punxsutawney. Perhaps next year a road trip to Punxsutawney would be fun.
Thanks for the spelling. I am not sure if I spelled it anywhere right on a post I wrote for tomorrow on ColumbusBestBlog.com my WordPress.org blog. The WP.org spell checker suggested Mulligatawny. Spell check here says Youngstown.
I have never gone up to Marion for GHD. Certainly not going to tomorrow with the ice.
Hi Maureen, I hope the groundhog predicts an early spring. I am waiting for tomorrow's prediction as well.
Maureen I think the groundhog is frozen! Don't know if he'll make it out since he is a popsicle.
