That's the advice of the first person who commented on Tanya Hutchins story about a Grandview Heights teen who wants to raise chickens...
Teen Puts ‘Pet Project’ In Front Of Council
In the Reader Reaction to the story on NBC4i.com "Sprockets" said:
"There are very good reasons why farm animals are called “farm animals” and not “suburb” or “city animals.“ In fact, there are several reasons. So what if this guy wants to keep chickens? Let him grow up, get a job, and move to the freaking country."
"Sprockets" mentions also he lived next door to someone who had a rooster...
Doesn't moving to the country kind of defeat that whole urban sustainability thing? The pet chickens are the second step in the teen's plan. First step a garden.
Andy Smigelski the Grandview Heights Ohio teen who wants to keep chickens in his backyard goes before the safety committee of the Grandview Heights council on Thursday.
Worthington's Chicken Leash Laws there was talk of a pet chicken law not too long ago.

You will have to keep us up to date on that....there was a story here recently about a pet goat not being allowed in an apt complex...
A goat does sound like a farm animal to me.... but then again so do chickens. The pet vs. agricultural use thing that people get into in the comments on the article on NBC4i.com site confuses me... if it lays an egg and I scramble it.... to me it sounds like I've got an animal producing a product.... my dog and the cat are useless pets in comparison... wait they are guard dog and mouser...
We were wondering if putting tomato plants in the front yard (more sun) would be gauche...
Salem has a chicken ban within city limits and there is push to allow people to have up to 4 hens (no roosters) in their backyard.
Many subdivisions have CC&R's so it wouldn't impact those areas, just the older neighborhoods without them.
CC&R's.... I believe would be what we call deed restrictions....Community Covenants and Restrictions?
I saw chickens on the west side of Columbus walking around a few years ago... but I am sure there are restrictions against them... there is a comment on the site where I lifted the comment " move to the #@%&ing country." from someone who says they live on the southside who has chickens. I remember chickens on the front yards in some neighborhoods around Dayton... probably in a township area.... I had a listing with a chicken coop within the past 10 years but it was in a township.
If Grandview would allow it I am sure these would be the first urban chickens in Central Ohio. Grandview and Worthington are older. No wait ...there are pet chickens in Worthington... or were until a neighbor's dog got them?
