Dublin schools is  #15 of '365 Places to Live in Columbus'

The Dublin City School District is in northwestern Franklin County and Southern Delaware County and a "smidgen"  of Dublin schools in Union County.  This school district like others throughout Central Ohio is a "Place to Live." A popular place to live.

'365 Places to Live in Columbus' is a page on Facebook and on ColumbusBestBlog.com

Dublin neighborhoods are very diverse, from affordable neighborhood in northwest Columbus to areas like last years Parade of Homes neighborhood, Tartan Ridge.   The average sale price in Dublin schools in April 2010 was $283,000 but there is a huge range of prices.

Oh and didn't the Dublin City Schools get an Excellent with Distinction mark on their report card from the state last time around?  Not that I am saying it is THE school district for your kids...  we have to be careful as real estate agents not to be telling people what school district to buy in... but IF you've got kids and the Dublin schools are a good fit for your kids... they got good grades from the state last time around.  "just sayin"

Olde Sawmill - 365 Places to Live in Columbus

Olde Sawmill is a northwest Columbus neighborhood. Olde Sawmill is in the City of Columbus Corporation Limit.  The Olde Sawmill neighborhood is in the 43016 ZIP code.  43016 is, Dublin Ohio 43016.  Part of the Olde Sawmill neighborhood is in the Dublin School District and some is in the Worthington School District.  The school districts existed before the land was developed.

I believe Olde Sawmill was the site of the BIA Parade of Homes.  1981?  1982?

Olde Sawmill homes for sale - Search

Olde Sawmill will be featured on a Facebook page today called 365 Places to Live in Columbus.  I started that page for Discover Columbus Ohio - Columbus real estate but immediately ran into technical difficulties with that site.  The content from a 2009 post has been recycled onto my main blog ColumbusBestBlog.com which has a page called '365 Places to Live in Columbus'... it is all connected.

The facebook page says: "'365 Places to Live in Columbus' is about neighborhoods, subdivisions, buildings, suburbs, etc. in Greater Columbus. Written by Maureen McCabe of Real Living HER. Add your 'hood. etc. tell us about where you live in Central Ohio." Maybe I should change "Written" to "Hosted." The Facebook page is NOT meant to be a monologue. Tell people about your subdivision, neighborhood, school district, ZIP code.

If you use the "Olde Sawmill homes for sale" - Search link above you will be taken to the Real Living HER home search online. If you use that search you will be offered the opportunity to receive listings directly from the Columbus Board of REALTORS MLS...

Dublin Ohio History

Dublin Ohio was once the wild, wild west according to the Dublin Historical Society.

In "From Leatherlips to Microchips" by Scott T. Weber a chapter from the book 'The Faces of Old Dublin' tells of

Weber who grew up in Dublin shares this poem about early Dublin:

“Dublin, Dublin, city of beautiful roses,
Gouged out eyes and bloody noses,
If it weren’t for the solid foundation,
It’d be gone to hell and damnation.”

Rock throwing was common?

There's a story about a "rumble" between Dublin and Worthington.

The first non Native American settlers in what eventually became Dublin arrived in 1810 from Franklinton, 12 miles south. Dublin Ohio celebrates it's bicentennial in 2010.

Dublin is much changed today.

Dublin Ohio's ghost stories

Dublin's Leatherlips monument

Dublin Ohio's ghost is mentioned more in the spring than the fall.

Ghosts and witches are usually more Halloween than May or June but the spirit of a Native American  who lived where Dublin has been for almost 200 years now is often blamed for rain during the Memorial Golf Tournament at Muirfield.

The Dublin Historical Society shares three stories about Chief Shateyaronyah who was called Chief Leatherlips by the white settlers.

Some would say the Wyandotte Chief known as Leatherlips haunts Dublin.   The Dublin Historical Society has an excerpt from an Associated Press newspaper article in 1997 that tells of the "Curse of Leatherlips"  and says "Though there is no evidence that it is true, local lore has it that the course was built on an Indian burial ground."

Kind of silly really.  Muirfield is far away from the Leatherlips Memorial and Chief Leatherlips was a friend of the white settlers.

Not a fan of golf?

The traffic during the tournament can be wild but the land along the Scioto River in Western Franklin County almost 200 years later has changed a lot from the land the Native American Chief lived on.

Leatherlips a .pdf of three stories from the Dublin Historical Society.

Two earlier renditions of the story of the  execution of Chief Leatherlips by another Wyandotte Chief say the Native Americans believed Chief Leatherlips was a witch.  Chief Leatherlips stayed and was friends with the white settlers and honored the Treaty of Greenville.  Other Wyandottes retreated north to the Sandusky area and blamed their illnesses and hardships in their new home on Chief Leatherlips.

"The Death of Chief Leatherlips" was published in 1929.

"Execution of a Witch Doctor"
was "An actual account of Leatherlips’ execution has been taken from an article in a literary magazine called The Hesperian of the West. Otway Curry, who was one of the editors, wrote the article which was published in 1838."

Dublin Ohio's ghost - history

The historical information on the Dublin Historical Societies website is from the book "From Leatherlips to Microchips" writtten by Scott T. Weber.  Weber grew up in Dublin.

The Leatherlips monument is on Riverside Drive in Dublin, close to where he is believed to have been executed by Wyandotte Indians.  Leatherlips was executed in 1810, the same year white people from Franklinton started the settlement which would become Dublin.

Dublin's Bicentennial

Dublin's Bicentennial - Dublin Ohio will be 200 years old in 2010.

Dublin's This Week Community Newspaper's  Residents will help tell city's story  by Jennifer Noblit says the theme is "200 years. One community. Endless possibilities."

Dublin is looking for “Shanachies”   story tellers.

If you are reading this from afar don't let the cities name fool you.  It was not settled by Irish people, story tellers or not...  The man who surveyed the area for the early settlers was from Ireland and was allowed to name it for his home town.   That never stops Dublin from celebrating all things Irish.

Dublin events throughout 2010 will focus on the cities bicentennial to celebrate 200 years.
