Delawanda a Clintonville Community sign

A comment on a post about the Delawanda Park neighbors says:

" I think that Delawanda Park is a Delawanda Park community. It's significantly North of the Clintonville recognized by non-Realtor™s.

Welcome to Clintonville sign at Worthington lineConspiracy in the Clintonville area of Columbus

Isn't it REALTORS® ?  Or Realtors®?  Or is "non-Realtors" trademarked???

A Realtor is a member of a trade organization....  There is CBR, OAR or NAR?  Was this the job of the Columbus Board of Realtors®?  The Ohio Association of Realtors®  Or does this go all the way to the top?  Did the National Association of Realtors® work to put a sign at the Worthington Columbus City line  welcoming people to Clintonville?

Did members of the National Association of REALTORS® erect the sign on Rathbone Rd.  welcoming people to "Delawanda a Clintonville Community?"  Or were citizens of the community responsible for the sign in their community?

Was the "Welcome to Clintonville" sign on High Street  at the south end of the city of Worthington erected by Realtors®? I believe this sign was placed there by the City of Columbus rather than "Realtors."   I believe the sign welcoming people to Clintonville is on around the corner of High St. and W. Stanton.... north of Delawanda Heights, Tremont Gardens*, Sharon Heights, etc.  Chaseland on the east side of High St. is a  city of Columbus neighborhood.

Tremont Gardens is not in the City of Columbus.  The Tremont Garden neighborhood is in Sharon Township.

I believe the "Welcome to Clintonville" sign on High Street is just south of Walnut Grove Cemetery, High Street at W. Stanton...

the history of the Morse - Bethel Connector

A site called 'Neighborhood Link' has a good read about the history of the Morse -  Bethel Connector.   The  Morse - Bethel Connector would have been a road connecting Clintonville to the Bethel Road area,  a bridge across the Olentangy River....

Neighborhood Link -  Clintonville Area Commission - Morse -  Bethel Connector says:

" For over three decades, there has been debate about building a bridge over the Olentangy River to connect Morse and Bethel roads. Morse Road is located in the northern portion of Clintonville. Morse Road is located within District 7, 8 and 9 of the Clintonville Area Commission."

Originally proposed in 1968!

Slide the map to the west if you need to... Bethel Road ends at 315 and the Olentangy River. Morse Rd. ends at High Street.

In the 1990's the Morse - Bethel Connector was proposed to go through Graceland Shopping Center.  With the redevelopment of Graceland... that did not happen.

Rathbone Road was the other place mentioned.  Rathbone Road is the southernmost street in the Delawanda Park neighborhood.  Rathbone Road is the street north of Old Beechwold.

It is interesting to think of how different Columbus would be today if the Morse - Bethel Connector had been built, in the 1960's or the 1990s.

The east west roads that cross the Olentangy are Dublin Granville Rd in Worthington (161) and Henderson and W. North Broadway in Clintonville. Last year W. Henderson Road was out of commission, along with 315 being under construction.  Not so easy to get around.  This years construction on 315 seems mild in comparison.

Clintonville Businesses - Don't judge a marquee by it's cover

Pierce Cleaners sign 2007 Clintonville Businesses - Don't judge a marquee by it's cover?

A comment on Yelp.com from someone named Heather...  about the Pierce Cleaners sign reads:

"Well, don't just a marquee by its cover.  I found them to be lacking in the personality department and completely unconcerned with hearing about how I was prompted to come in because of their funny sayings on the marquee outside."

Clintonville Businesses -  Don't judge a marquee by it's cover? or Heather's "don't just a marquee by its cover"  must come from the phrase "Don't judge a book by it's cover" ... don't judge a marquee by it's cover (do marquees have covers?)

I believe Heather is saying just because the business has a clever sign don't expect the employees to have personality or want to engage you in conversation...  I guess they want to know if you have the ticket to pick up your laundry or dry cleaning... or what you want to drop off. Sparkling conversation... they have a marquee for that.  Or a much loved clever sign.

Personally I had never heard the Pierce Cleaners employees did not make the cleverest of conversation while taking in dirty laundry or even when returning sparkling clean shirts and neatly pressed laundry to customers. Not a customer myself.  I just love their sign.

Or did.  Heather's was just a funny Yelp review...  a sign of the times... Yelp.com does reviews of local businesses.  The clever sign at 5205 High St. got hit by a car in July 2010. I understand the sign is being repaired and will be back out on High St. being clever again soon.  A friend who uses Pierce Cleaners talked heard the sign will go back up.

Clintonville Businesses and those throughout Central Ohio...

In closing I want to remind businesses in Clintonville, Worthington, Westerville (thinking of a Westerville)  business with a marquee), Powell, Dublin etc.    "Well, don't just a marquee by its cover."

Creeping Clintonville Border - blame Columbus real estate agents

Welcome to Clintonville sign at Worthington lineCreeping Clintonville Border -  blame  Columbus real estate agents, according to Wikipedia or the author of the Clintonville article on Wikipedia

Clintonville, Columbus, Ohio:

"As the cachet of the Clintonville neighborhood grew towards the turn of the 21st century, real estate agents began to label homes north of Cooke Road as being in Clintonville, leading to the apparent absorption of Beechwold and nearby neighborhoods south of Worthington. It was not uncommon in the booming real estate market circa 2000 to even find homes outside of the distinct east and west borders being sold as "Clintonville" homes. Because Clintonville and Beechwold have no official existence, however, the boundaries are a matter of opinion."

Pictured the sign just south of  W. Stanton Rd, at the southern border of the city of Worthington and the city of Columbus.  Was the sign on High St.  saying "Welcome to Clintonville"   posted by rogue real estate agents because of "the cachet of the Clintonville neighborhood."?   I always assumed the City of Columbus was responsible for posting the "Welcome to  Clintonville"  sign at the border between the cities of Columbus and Worthington.  The sign is just south of Cemetery St., the southern border of the City of Worthington on the west side of High Street.  On the east side of High St. Selby is in the City of Worthington, Chase is in the City of Columbus.

The same Wikipedia article says  "Popular landmarks in Clintonville include the "Welcome to Clintonville" signs at the main entryways of the community."

Or elsewhere... a mile or so up the road...

The City of Columbus neighborhoods south of Worthington and north of Clintonville,  Beechwold, Chaseland, Delaware Park, Old Beechwold, Sharon Heights...others are part of the Clintonville area commission.

Clintonville Area Commission Districts

The Clintonville Area Commission website has a map that shows the districts within their area and the boundaries.  Including Clintonville and those "other" neighborhoods... hence "Clintonville Area..." Indian Springs Elementary School - attendance area

Excellent With DistinctionIndian Springs  Elementary School is in the Columbus City School District, the largest school district in Central Ohio.  Doing some research for a client recently I discovered the home we were discussing is in the Indian Springs Elementary School attendence area for the 2010 -2011 school year. Now this couple does not have children and I don't have children but we were still interested in what schools a house went to.  We wondered about elementary school, middle school and high school... well the high school part was NOT really a big puzzle, I thought it would be Whetstone High School,  the home is in the Clintonville area... kinda... or the area north of Clintonville and south of Worthington.  The home in question is in the Indian Springs elementary school, Dominion Middle School and Whetstone High School attendence areas.

I will admit finding the  school  attendence areas for the 2010 2011 school year was a piece of cake with the internet.

I was vaguely aware of Indian Springs Elementary school... since it is in the Clintonville Beechwold area  I was happy to see the Indian Springs Elementary School website proclaim they got a good report card the last time around.  Actually a great report card.

Indian Springs Elementary School received an Excellent with Distinction "grade' in the most recent results. I believe the results came out in 2009 for the 2007 - 2008 school year,

As school is letting out for the 2009 2010 school year... the report card for Indian Springs Elementary school  is the one from 2007 2008 school year...  which came out right when school was ready to start up in 2009.

The Columbus City School District's attendence area is on  their website on a page called Columbus City Schools Directories.  The .pdf documents for  2009-2010 school year and the 2010 -2011 school year are huge.  There is a search at the very top put in a street name and it will open the page... usually.  It is slow. Again they are huge document.

There are other opportunities in the Columbus City School District, including magnet schools.

In many Central Ohio school districts school attendence areas change year to year, within the school district...   When it comes to purchasing a home you have to check directly with the school district and verify and reverify if being in a particular school is important to you.  Know that changes in the population could cause the school district to change the schools a particular home within their district goes to.

Ohio Schools making the grade

Central Ohio High Schools make top of the class

Clintonville - Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,

"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying."

My favorite poem?  Hardly...  I don't have one...

The 2010 Columbus Rose Festival is coming up the second weekend in June.

Details about the Columbus Rose Festival 2010 from the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department - stop and smell the roses

Photos from the 2008 Columbus Rose Festival. There was no 2009 Columbus Rose Festival.

Vote the Whetstone Park of Roses in Clintonville on the All-America Rose Selections (AARS) “America’s Best Rose Garden” Competition

The verse is the opening stanza of a poem from Robert Herrick, a dead poet from long ago. The title "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time" I think I may be doing the NaBloPoMo daily writing prompt... I did yesterday and today.... which asked if you don't have a favorite poem why not?

My response? Sorry, I am just not into poetry. Never have been.

Clintonville - not a suburb but the best neighborhood

Clintonville the best Columbus neighborhood? Columbus neighborhood poll... Clintonville is a neighborhood.... "What's the best City of Columbus / Columbus Schools Residential Neighborhood?"

The Best Columbus Ohio suburb poll... you know places like Dublin, Grandview Heights, Lewis Center, New Albany, Powell, Westerville, Worthington.

Voters on that poll added in other Central Ohio suburbs. The comment about "not a suburb but the best neighborhood CLINTONVILLE"  was left on the Best suburb poll. Westgate was left more than once... a neighborhood not a suburb.

Terraces on Walhalla - Clintonville

The Terraces on Walhalla are NEW condominiums in Clintonville.  Terraces on Walhalla is at the corner of High Street and Weber Rd.  The four story building's address is 10 E. Weber Rd.  Columbus Ohio 43202.

Clintonville Terraces on Walhalla

Terraces on Walhalla offers one, two and three bedroom units.  There are 20 residential units.   The project is listed with Real Living HER team of Gledhill Robbins & Talis Group  and  of Real Living HER.  Bill Robbins gave me a tour of the project a couple of weeks ago... gee I wish I would have written about it when it was fresh in my brain... there is a lot of diversity to the units... mostly I remember coveting a sold unit with a huge closet and a killer terrace... the condo floor plans are very open and flexible.  The finishes are gorgeous, quartz or granite counters, hardwood floors.

Some of the terraces are to die for, each unit has a private terrace and there are two large common area terraces as well.  Condominiums offer a view of High Street or Walhalla depending on your preference.

Search Terraces on Walhalla - Clintonville condos for sale  You can do FHA financing on Terraces on Walhalla!  The first condo units are closing this month.

Of course the Clintonville neighborhood is very walkable and bikeable.  That place in the parking garage at Terraces on Walhalla for your bike is very important.

There will always be the mystery of what happened to the FIRST Terraces on Walhalla which burned the night of while under construction.

Terraces on Walhalla in Clintonville is #10 on '365 Places to Live in Columbus' on Facebook.
