Columbus Corn

Real Living LobbyIf you visit Real Living and Real Living HER (Real Living in Central Ohio formerly HER Realtors)  at 77 E. Natiowide Blvd. in downtown Columbus Ohio you will see this statue in the hall. Or I did when I visited the last time.

Kinda corny

Chicago had cows,   Denver had cows  (Broncos are cows?  like bucking broncos... OK),  Cinci had pigs and Columbus had corn.  Columbus is in the corn belt.  I believe we are considered eastern edge of the corn belt.  You don't have to go far from the neighborhoods of Central Ohio to be in a cornfield. The city of Columbus had corn statues one summer.

Real Living a real estate company based in Central Ohio (in Central Ohio it is Real Living HER) commissioned this corn statue which was at the then new Arena Grand Theater.

I am wondering where the other corn statues in Ohio are now.

On the Wikipedia (online encyclopedia ... kinda sorta anyway) an anonymous comment on the Talk Columbus page (where contributors argue about what needs to be edited) says:

"Ohio ranks 9th in population density within the nation, the largest part of that population in North Eastern Ohio, Greater Columbus is 1.6 million people surrounded by corn fields! Yes 10% of the states population lives in greater Columbus, 25% lives around Cleveland!"

Anonymous Clevelander? Or is it Clevelandite? Spell check prefers ite. People in Columbus are Columbusites.

I think it is great that Columbus, the biggest city in Ohio but merely the third biggest metro area in Ohio behind Cleveland and Cinci can embrace the corn.

And of course there's the field of corn in Dublin Ohio.... great statues.  A monument to our history.  Best seen up close and personal... get out of your car and read the markers.

The Arena District in Columbus

Have you heard the expression "It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there"?  I live and work in the far, far north reaches of the City of Columbus... north of Worthington, north of 270. When I think of lots of neighborhoods in Central Ohio I think "It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there" sometimes because I could not afford to live there... There is anything wrong with the areas, but just because I live and work where I live and work.  One great place to visit for me is the Arena District.

The Arena District is a great place to play, Nationwide Arena, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets is in the Arena District, of course.   The Columbus Destroyers, an Arena Football League Team also plays at the Nationwide Arena.

Huntington Park will be opening in Spring 2009 as the home of the Columbus Clippers, the top Cleveland Indians farm team.  Huntington Park will be on the corner of Neil Ave. and Nationwide Ave.

More to do in The Arena District in Downtown Columbus:

The Arena Grand Theatre

Lifestyle Communities Pavilion

The Arena District is restaurants, special events and more...

If you want to live in the Arena District there are condos there too.  Wouldn't it be fun to be close to all the action? I'm glad there is The Arena District for those of us who live out north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west to visit. The Arena District is one of Central Ohio's greatest playgrounds.
