Osage Oranges: Worthington Farmer's Market

"Osage Oranges" at the Worthington Farmer's Market

Osage Orange for sale at the Olde Worthington Farmer's Market

Do you know about using Osage Orange to deter spiders? Osage Orange or Osage-orange?  I showed a house in Lewis Center about four years ago and there were Osage Oranges in the basement.  The buyer told me what they were... why they were there.

Maclura pomifera Wikipedia cites something that says the spider thing is not true...

Last year I was showing a house on acreage on N. Liberty Road and the buyer told me the trees along the driveway were Osage Orange trees(?)  Osage Oranges are also called Hedge Apples.  The tree was used as a border to farm fields, a living fence.

Next week is the last farmer's market in Worthington.  Last week  of the Olde Worthington Farmer's Summer Market.   I hope she is there.  I want an Osage Orange for the garage and one for the basement...  I don't like spiders.  I am willing to gamble $1.00.

Happy Easter - 2011

Happy Easter Worthington

Blue skies and the Worthington Green...  Happy Easter 2011!

The photo is NOT from this year... the photo is looking at the Worthington Presbyterian Church across the Village Green in 2009...  Easter was in early April 2009... the trees are more leafed out this year since Easter was so late but there are no beautiful blue skies today, or Saturday, or Friday.   I can't remember before that if we were having rain... I think it has been raining all week.

Worthington Presbyterian Church Good Friday 2011

I went to the Worthington Good Friday Community Service on the Village Green on Friday but it was moved inside this year because of rain earlier in the day on Friday... this inside picture is 2011.  I had walked in once last year or the year before to see what the inside of the Worthington Presbyterian Church looked but I had never been in the sanctuary except to take a peak that one time.

I have gone to the Good Friday Community Service in the city of Worthington a number of years.  Some years it has rained.  The Good Friday service is a number of Worthington area  churches: Worthington Presbyterian, St. John's Episcopal Church, All Saints Lutheran Church, Gethsemene Lutheran Church, St. Michael's Catholic Church, The Salvation Army, The Seventh Day Adventist Church.  I hope I did not miss any.

The quote in the shape of a cross on the sign on the Worthington Green Good Friday ServiceWorthington Green is from George MacLeod (I had to Google him):

"I simply argue that the cross be raised again at the centre of the marketplace as well as on the steeple of the church."

Happy Easter 2011!   Happy Spring 2011!

Worthington Ohio - Memorial Day 2007

I must admit I watched the parade from a front lawn of a house in the Village of Riverlea.  Riverlea is surrounded by Worthington and the Olentangy river.

Bands from both Worthington Kilbourne and Thomas Worthington as well as the OSU Alumni Band and a bagpipe band were in the parade this year. There were a number of Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, a swim club, pom pom girls and baton twirlers from Central Ohio in the parade.
