Riverlea is not a rectangle

In my mind Riverlea has four sides.  Three sides touch Worthington and the westside is of course the Olentangy River.

I made this map so it may not even be totally accurate but Riverlea is no rectangle.

Riverlea is a village in Franklin County Ohio.  Riverlea is totally residential.

Riverlea a tradition of confusion

City of WorthingtonRiverlea a tradition of confusion

People think Riverlea is a lovely Worthington neighborhood.  Riverlea is not a Worthington neighborhood yet. Riverlea is seeking annexation into the City of Worthington.

Riverlea is not a Worthington neighborhood yet.

I'd missed reading Dispatch Politics article about the possibility of Riverlea being annexed to Worthington.   People are quoted as not realizing Riverlea was NOT Worthington.

In  Time to Join the Fold by Mark Ferenchik.

Ferenchik quotes Riverlea residents in December 2010:

"I thought it was Worthington."

Three people who bought homes in Riverlea, a sleepy village hugging the Olentangy River, all said something to that effect last week when asked what brought them to the community."

The Village of Riverlea was established in 1939, much later than the Village of Worthington in 1803.  Riverlea has a Village Council and a Mayor. Village of Riverlea sign

Can you read the sign?  Village of Riverlea.  It is a real Village, not a neighborhood named "Village."

Riverlea is one of very few real villages left in Central Ohio.  Things named "Village" now that's another matter.

If you are reading this on 'Worthington Old and News' and are confused...  there are  neighborhoods described as "Worthington schools, Columbus taxes."  Areas in the Worthington City School District but not in the City of Worthington.  There are lots of neighborhoods in the City of Columbus and unincorporated areas that are in Worthington schools.

Riverlea is not a Worthington neighborhood yet...

Riverlea is not a Worthington neighborhood yet...

Village of Riverlea signIn 'Riverlea a step closer to being annexed by Worthington', Dean Narciso of the Columbus Dispatch writes of the steps in the annexation process the village will go through.

Riverlea is not a Worthington neighborhood

It's hard sometimes to remember that Riverlea is not a Worthington neighborhood.  Riverlea is a separate village on the Olentangy River surrounded by Worthington on three sides... kinda sorta.  Riverlea is not quite rectangular.

Until recently our MLS area (the Columbus Board of REALTORS multiple listing service ) had an area which was City of Worthington and the Village of Riverlea.  MLS areas were done away with recently.  Riverlea was lumped in with the City of Worthington while other areas in the Worthington City School District in the City of Columbus and unincorporated areas were in different MLS areas. In the 1990s Riverlea was in an MLS area for unincorporated areas of northern Franklin County.  It was in an MLS area with much of Worthington Hills, Worthington Estates and other little pockets of homes outside the corporation limits of Columbus or Worthington.

Life in the Village of RiverleaCity of Worthington

Riverlea has a Worthington mailing address... so do other neighborhoods not in the City of Worthington too, Riverlea is in the 43085 zip code.  So are some Columbus neighborhoods along the west side of the Olentangy River.. in the 43085 zip code.  There are  neighborhoods north of 270 in the city of Columbus in the zip code too.

Riverlea is in the Worthington City School District and so are other neighborhoods in the City of Columbus and Perry and Sharon Townships.

Riverlea has Worthington police and fire service.  Riverlea looked at contracting with the Sharon Township Police a few years back as I recall.

Riverlea is not a Worthington neighborhood yet...

What happens if Worthington spurns Riverlea?  Annexation to Columbus?
