If you Twitter what are your Twitter Turns Offs? These are my Ten Twitter Turn Offs. What are yours?
Spam is probably the number one turn off anywhere on the Internet for most of us but I get confused about how spammers spam on Twittter.

Twitter Turn Off #1. It's a ratio thing.....
It's a ratio thing between followers vs. being followed. The followers who are following a huge number of members are to be avoided.
You'd think... "look he / she is reading ALL those Twitter members Tweets..." Good behavior? NOT! They are trying to drum up followers for their commercial tweets by following to get read? Using Twitter for traffic with out creating conversation. Not that ZamboniPalin (from a little political joke on the internet about Governor Palin's kid's names) is a spammer. The spam thing on Twitter confuses me... though because I think only once have I clicked on an icky link via Twitter... because I pay attention to ratios before I follow.
Twitter Turn Off #2. The "Thank You For Following" or "Welcome Followers" ...Notes Tweets
This is probably only me... I hate the "thanks for following tweets." They probably do it to be polite. Here's one that got unfollowed because of "You can check out my real estate blog at "http://blahblahbla.net" Gee if I wanted to check out your real estate blog I could certainly find it.... and not all Thanks for the Follow Tweets are bad... a personal note from someone I know would never offend me. Or even one from most strangers. I found this DM (direct message) from a total stranger particularly conversational:
|
Hi Maureen. Thanks for following. How did you find me (just curious)? 11:35 PM Oct 24th
|
|
Someone I follow was having an interesting conversation with him. I clicked to see what he tweeted... and ended up following him.
I am probably on someones Twitter Turn Off list for NOT saying "Thanks for the Follow."
Here's a blanket "Thanks for the follow" if it applies...
Twitter Turn Off # 3. Broadcasting I saw a tweet from someone in the media in Columbus when This Week News started tweeting. He tweeted he'd unsubscribed because they just broadcast. Not that the Dispatch, WOSU etc. aren't
broadcasting tweets to get us to their sites...
Or on a less local level The New York Times, The BBC, Reuters etc. aren't broadcasting their stories. Some broadcast better via Twitter than others.
It may be like Sunday Morning Real Estate Math Problem's guy and Dryer Vent Franchise Sales Fella on ActiveRain. Some say split it up so it does not look like a block of ......
Or maybe split it up so it does not look so obvious that you are broadcasting rather than conversing with others....
IMHO There is a difference between a feed of a story or two and a big block o' broadcasting. So far I have not unfollowed the big block of broadcasting that is This Week News but I can't say I am tempted to go visit a lot of it.
There are lots of ways to broadcast. I know I used to use TwitterFeed on my ActiveRain posts and those from my two blogs. I did not stop. It broke. It breaking may have been a good thing...
Twitter Turn Off #4. Same old Same Old...being followed by lead generators who will connect me with buyers and sellers turns
me off. Again look at their ratio, following a lot more than are following them. Not as bad as some. Maybe I need to get over this. Not following this one (or most) but being folllowed by a few.
Twitter Turn Off #5 My Twitter Paranoia
Can you Twitter if you are paranoid?
Personal... months later I still have a lot of the same issues.
Turns out I could not come up with 10 Twitter Turn Offs. Mostly I like Twitter a lot.... so I had to ask for help.
I asked via Twitter:
what turns you off from following a follower on Twitter?
They answered via Twitter:
