Tasteless commercial or just ill-timed...

The name is being change from Swine Flu to H1N1 Flu.

You can't catch this flu from eating pork... no matter what it's name is.

There is still only one confirmed case of Swine Flu in Ohio?  or two on an official map from the World Health Organization. The local news says there are suspected cases in Franklin and Union County.  People are flocking to emergency rooms in Central Ohio, or so last nights local news made it seem.

I probably would NOT have noticed these White Castle Commercials if not for the news being Swine Flu all of the time.

I am not a big White Castle "fan." Well I am of the company... but not of the food. It's a matter of personal taste.

...I have not had a slider in years

...I just never learned to appreciate sliders

White Castle is based in Columbus Ohio.

I probably wouldn't have noticed the commercials if it was not for all the Swine Flu hoopla on the news.  I don't think the commercial or product is aimed at me... The first time I saw the commercial I thought "what the.... "  I thought "is that a pig?" I don't believe I made a connection to Swine Flu the first time I saw the commercial.   I think I have seen the commercial three times now. It amuses me. I think.

This advertising site thinks the introduction of pulled pork sliders is poorly timed... White Castle and the Ill-timed Pulled Pork Promo

Slashfood.com has been expecting the intro since 2007  White Castle testing pulled pork

Tasteless or "Ill-timed" here's a site with a link to an Online coupon for a FREE pulled pork slider for a limited time.

A newspaper on a PC? "That's Crazy Talk"

"A Newspaper? On a PC? That’s Crazy Talk"  in the Bits column on the the New York Times website,  Sam Grobart shares a  video from a 1981. It a San Francisco television newscast about the two San Francisco print publications pioneering newspapers on PCs.

"Imagine if you will sitting down to your morning coffee... turning on your home computer to read the days newspaper"

"That's Crazy Talk!"

The San Francisco PC owner dials ...and I mean dials... look at the monitors... look at the keyboards but really, really look at that red rotary dial phone.  That's primitive. The PC owner dials "a local number that will connect him with a computer in Columubus Ohio"   CompuServe?

The two hours it took the newspaper to download to the PC and the $5 per hour access charge compared to the twenty cents the daily paper costs puts "That's Crazy Talk" in 1981 perspective.

Was it CompuServe?

"An Internet Pioneer

Founded in 1969 as a computer time-sharing service, Columbus, Ohio-based CompuServe drove the initial emergence of the online service industry. In 1979, CompuServe became the first service to offer electronic mail capabilities and technical support to personal computer users. CompuServe broke new ground again in 1980 as the first online service to offer real-time chat online with its CB Simulator. By 1982, the company had formed its Network Services Division to provide wide-area networking capabilities to corporate clients."

"Tomorrow imagine if you will sitting down to your morning coffee... turning on your home computer to read the days newspaper"

and remember 1981...
