New England Homes: People's Choice

Congratulations to New England Homes the People's Choice!

New England Homes - Olentangy Falls

The New England Homes entry to the 2011 BIA Parade of Homes at Olentangy Falls was voted number one in both divisions of the People's Choice Award.   The BIA Parade of Homes blog post titled: Peoples Choice: Congrats to New England Homes  announced the results of a ballot for the favorites of those who attended the Parade of Homes.

The BIA Parade of Homes blog announced the four companies who shared in the awards, New England Homes was number one for both "the Favorite House division" and "the Favorite Interior Décor division. "  The New England Homes entry, a Connecticut farmhouse with a wrap-around front porch and a three car "carriage house" garage seemed like a crowd favorite during the Parade of Homes in June 2011.

New England Homes entry cleaned up in the awards from the BIA.  Those awards were annouced the night before the 2011 Parade of Homes began at the event on June 10, 2011.

Parade of Homes - the latest and greatest style in home decor

Parade of Homes - the latest and greatest style in home decor

1960s kitchen Do you plan to attend this years Parade of Homes at Olentangy Falls in southern Delaware County?  Do you usually go? I love seeing how the homes are decorated,  what features are important to different builders, how similar or different the floor plans and styles are.  I like seeing "the latest and greatest style in home decor."

I would love to go back in time and see the houses from different years.  The BIA Parade of Home decorating through the years.  The BIA Parade of  homes in 1968 was in Annehurst Village.

A comment on a 2007 blog post about Annehurst Village by Laurie said:

"I was researching the 1968 Parade of Homes and came across your info.  We live in Annehurst and live in a former Parade of Homes house (ours was #1).  A realtor in the neighborhood gave us the brochure on our home..it's pretty interesting.  Our home had not been updated so I can tell you that the colors were avacado green, gold and brown.  Lots of dark stained wood.  Lots of wallpaper.  Nice wood flooring, "upgraded kitchen"  for the time (hardwood cabinets, bronze fixtures, slide-out shelves, wood trimmed counters).  Oh, and fake wood beams (dark wood, of course).  Hopefully I'll hit on some more info...thanks for yours."

Quoting Wikipedia on my old blog post about 1968:

"Popular Music

The Beatles launched Apple Records.

The rock musical Hair opened on Broadway

On TV

In Sports

NBA Finals: Boston Celtics won 4 games to 2 over the Los Angeles Lakers

Lamp in 60s roomI wanted photos of 1968 Central Ohio home decor to match the era of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, Planet of the Apes and Peggy Fleming.  Avocado appliances?  Shag carpet? I really loved Laurie's response in describing their Annehurst Village home's look.

Here's some ideas on a site called Retro Renovation!  6 interiors with great ideas from the late 1960s

Wallpapered Appliances and more.... read more: 6 interiors with great ideas from the late 1960s — Retro Renovation the author, Pam Kueber writes of a fixture in a bathroom in a Moen advertisement. "Those are “persian” tiles behind – very popular in ’68, as far as I can see."    I remember "PersiWallpaper 1960san tiles..." I wonder if you can find any in Annehurst in 2011.

New England Homes "Cleans Up in Awards Ceremony"

New England Homes Olentangy Falls New England Homes Ohio a custom builder "Cleaned Up in the  2011 BIA Parade of Homes Awards" on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Olentangy Falls in southern Delaware County.

Breaking NEWS.... New England Homes CLEANED UP in the awards

A photo of the awards on the marble island in the award winning kitchen appeared on  both ColumbusBestBlog.com and Columbus Life (on Posterous) during the BIA Parade of Homes Preview Party last night.  This same photo of the awards appeared on those two sites during the Parade of Homes Preview Party, June 10, 2011.

New England Homes 2011 Awards

"Cleans Up in Awards Ceremony"

The New England Homes entry got the most awards?  That's what people were reporting as they returned toNew England Homes wrap around front porch the New England Homes house (#1 in the Parade of Homes... just in the order) during last nights Preview Party.  I wish I could tell you who said "You guys are cleaning up" as he walked into the New England Homes house.  An exciting moment and evening even as a volunteer... Real Living HER's Builder Service Division is working with New England Homes. I probably ought to mention I am working on the Real Living HER New Homes team working with New England Homes now...

Sold!

The BIA Parade of homes has eleven entries this year.  Talking to the President of Ambassador Homes last night (during the storm that came through myself and a co-worker were stuck* in the Ambassador model ) that house went in contract Thursday night...  By stuck I mean no disrespect to the Ambassador Home, they were not a food and beverage station  and we were there during the big storm that came through southern Delaware County last night.  I would have been happier stuck in any house with food and drink.  We went to the Ambassador Homes entry  first after working about two hours at the New England Home.  We specifically went to see the interior design of the Ambassador Home.  If I understood correctly the President of Ambassador Homes said all of the 2011 BIA Parade of Homes entries are now sold?

Or close?  Maybe he said he'd heard M/I Homes was negotiating on their house.

Would that set some sort of record with the Parade of Homes if all the homes were sold before the Parade of Homes opened?  Today is the first day of the Parade of Homes.  There will be signs in front of the homes telling you what awards they won.

It was awesome that even going into the Parade of Homes earlier in the week, eight of the eleven homes were sold.  You've heard from the media that no one is buying homes.  No one is building homes... I digress.

New England Homes #1 Olentangy FallsBack to New England Homes house which was sold long before the Parade of Homes opened.

If I counted correctly, the gorgeous "Connecticut farmhouse style home" with the wrap around porch received

  • 6 Gold
  • 2 Silver
  • 4 Bronze
  • An honorable mention

I will have to sort out what the six Gold awards, 2 silver, etc on the New England Home are...  Kitchen, Exterior Architecture, Plan, Library / Study  come to mind.

New England Homes is  #1 in order of the parade.  You will enter through a gate just south (?) of the New England Homes house.

New England Homes has a new website!

Parade of Homes 2011 - Olentangy Falls

The Parade of Homes 2011 is at Olentangy Falls in southern Delaware County.  I drove over last Friday to snap some photos of the houses... because it was not raining.  The sky was dark and ominous but it did not rain much.

Olentangy Falls - 2011 bia PARADE of homes

There are twelve eleven builders in the 2011 Parade of homes.  They were very, very busy last Friday...  there were an unbelievable number of trucks on the street with the 2011 BIA Parade of Homes ...  I could not park to find a place to snap some photos of homes.

  1. Ambassador Homes
  2. Compass Homes
  3. Dominion Homes
  4. Fischer Homes
  5. Manor Homes
  6. M/I Homes, Inc.
  7. New England Homes
  8. P&D Builders, Ltd.
  9. Rockford Homes
  10. Tuckerman Home Group
  11. Weaver Custom Homes

Why was I thinking there were twelve builders in the 2011 BIA Parade of Homes?    The Parade of Homes starts June 11, 2011 and runs through July 26, 2011.  Many but not all of the Parade of Homes entries are sold.

Where is Olentangy Falls?

I did a Google Map but something is wrong with it... Olentangy Falls is west of Route 23 (Columbus Pike) on Hyatts Road. It is on the south side of Hyatt's Road. It's a very easy to find Parade of Homes and I imagine the BIA will have lots of signs on 23 and Hyatt's Road when the Parade of Homes opens. Olentangy Falls is in the Olentangy Local School District.

Tartan Ridge - 2009 BIA Parade of Homes

Tartan Ridge Dublin MI Home at 2009 Parade Last chance... the BIA Parade of Homes at Tartan Ridge in Dublin runs through Sunday, July 26, 2009.

The builders in the 2009 BIA Parade of Homes are:

* Compass Homes
* Coppertree Homes
* Dani Homes
* Duffy Homes by Michael Edwards
* Gossing Construction
* Kevin Knight & Company
* Lakewood Builders
* MI Homes
* New England and Garth's
* Romanelli & Hughes
* Stafford Group

The home pictured at the left, is the M/I Homes Parade of Home entry at Tartan Ridge.

I worked as a volunteer twice at the Parade at the New England Homes Parade house this year.   One of theTartan Ridge Dublin - New England Homes partners in New England Homes is also an agent with my office.

The 2006 New England Homes entry in the BIA Parade of Homes won the People's Choice Award that year.

The 2009 People's Choice Award will be announced after the Parade of Homes ends.

The New England Homes house pictured at the right is a Cape Cod style home with a first floor master bedroom.  The house is approximately 5600 square feet.  There is a big bonus room over the three car garage.

It has a great backyard with a salt water pool, an outdoor kitchen...

The front porch of the New England Homes model with eight big rocking chairs was popular Thursday while I was there as it rained briefly... On Wednesday it rained a lot.

I understand about half of the homes were sold prior to the Parade of Homes start.  Both the homes pictured here are sold.

I saw all the homes... at Tartan Ridge ..this year. There are lots of videos and photos on the BIA Parade of Homes site and the individual builders sites and will be more I am sure after the "parade" ends but there is nothing like seeing the homes in person.   Go!

Dress sensibly, dress for the weather...

Go now visit the BIA Parade of Homes before it is too late!
