Uncle Sam

Doo Dah Parade 2011 had many of the usual suspects... the Marching Fidels, the Art Cars, the Fishnet Mafia and Uncle Sam on his big wheel.

Red, White & Boom - July 1, 2011

Red, White & Boom 2011

Red, White & Boom

Usually Red, White & Boom is on July 3, but not this year.  With the 4th on a Monday in 2011 the biggest Central Ohio fireworks display moved forward to Friday, July 1, 2011.  It will be a long, spread out celebration of Independence Day this year.

Red, White & Boom  2011 and other local fireworks

Here's a link to a list of Red, White & Boom plus many more local fireworks shows throughout Central Ohio.  The link is to a list on  NBCi Channel 4. Most Central Ohio communities have fireworks.

Columbus OH - Doo Dah Parade 2010

The Doo Dah Parade - Columbus, OH

The Doo Dah Parade is my favorite part of the 4th of July.  The Doo Dah Parade is on Sunday July 4, 2010 at 1:00 PM.  The rain date is usually the day before isn't it? You would not be out of place sitting on the side of the street from  11:00 AM...

Who is in the Doo Dah Parade in Columbus?  Who ever... (or is it whom ever?)  wants to be.  You just show up.   According to the Doo Dah website:

"2010 Less-Than-Grand Marshal:  Ann Fisher of WOSU AM/FM/TV (in 3D) escorted (hopefully) by Police Horses Buddy & Harry (could be two plastic rocking horses)"

In 3D????

The 3D slide show is from the Doo Dah Parade- Columbus OH 2008.  We sat on Neil Avenue in Victorian Village,  last year we got there late so we stood right on High St. in the Short North.  I have photos of that Parade, lots of the Donato's in the background... I prefer Victorian homes in the background.

A favorite of mine year after year?  The Marching Fidels... Each year politics and current events make the Doo Dah Parade new and exciting and unpredictable.

Red White & Boom - Columbus

fireworks in Columbus OhioRed, White & Boom is on the 3rd of July.

According to Wikipedia's Red White & Boom entry:

"Red, White & Boom is the name of a number of annual fireworks shows in the United States, held on or near July 4 to celebration the nation's Independence Day. The title is a pun on "red, white, and blue," the colors of the American flag.

The largest is in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Attendance typically averages 500,000 people but has been as high as 750,000. Red, White & Boom was started in 1981 by WNCI and WCMH-TV and is paid for by corporate sponsors. A few hundred of the attendees begin gathering over 24 hours before the fireworks, and Bicentenial Park is typically full of people with tents by mid-morning the day of the fireworks. Entertainment typically starts at 11 a.m. or noon there. Veterans Memorial also has people gathering early as that is the offical spot for RV's."

This is the 27th annual Red White and Boom in Columbus.

I go most years but not early... I am not one of those people who camps out all day.

The parade is at 6:00 - schedule, directions, parking entertainment and more is available on Channel 4's Red White & Boom site.
