Central Ohio bed bugs... recommendations to REALTORS®

Infrared Bed Bug

Columbus bed bugs.... not just City of Columbus of course... Did you know there is a Central Ohio Bed Bugs Task Force.... and their site includes a page titled "realtor recommendations" ?

Central Ohio Bed Bug Task Force  (CentralOhioBedBugs.org is the url) The Central Ohio Bed Bug Task Force's "realtor recommendations"  are a .pdf (Acrobat Reader document.)

The Central Ohio Bed Bug Taks Force recommendations to "REALTORS®" (site reads "realtors")  says:

"the responsibility of discovering bed bug infestations is in your court"

Really?

Who is the Central Ohio Bed Bug Task Force?

The Central Ohio Bed Bug Task Force According to their site the Steering Committee of the Central Ohio Bed Bug Task Force includes people from the Franklin County Board of Health, The Ohio State University, Columbus Code Enforcement, the Ohio Pest Management Association and the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

*The Central Ohio Bed Bug Task Force site says to REALTORS®  * ...although the site says realtors I'd think they include licensed real estate Infrared Bed Bugagents in Ohio who do not belong to the National Association of REALTORS.  The term REALTORS® just means member of a trade organization, the National Association of REALTORS.

The Central Ohio Bed Bug Task Force has a colorful map but I do not see the legend to know what the colors mean...   The Central Ohio Bed Bug Task Force says:

"Selling residences and commercial buildings is an already complicated process, as you well know. Until recently, the only insect issues that realtors had to be concerned about were wood-destroying insects, such as termites and carpenter ants. Now, add to that the risk of a building being infested with bed bugs and the process can become a nightmare. This page is offered as a list of practical tips and resources to assist realtor in maintaining their success with selling developed properties, despite the threat of bed bugs."

Infrared Bed BugI disagree... real estate agents have always had to be aware of any infestation that affects the sale of a home, insect issues include wasps, hornets, fleas... but the Central Ohio bed bug task force is totally focused on bed bugs.  Bed bugs are a problem in Central Ohio.  I have not run into bed bugs personally or professionally.

Although I have never had any experience with bed bugs, I would not wish bed bugs on my worst enemy.   This is the first in a four part series about Central Ohio bed bugs.

Come back to read about:

  • The Columbus Board of REALTORS® PURCHASE CONTRACT bed bug contingency*....
  • Central Ohio home sellers do the bed bugs convey?
  • Central Ohio WHO inspects for bed bugs

I am itchy and I just took a shower...

* Here is a hint that RUINS the whole next post in the series...  there is no contingency for this pest or any other pest, in the CBR contract.  EDITED to add "PURCHASE CONTRACT."

Sharon Heights neighborhood in the news...

Welcome to Clintonville sign at Worthington lineSharon Heights is a north Columbus neighborhood...   The Toledo Blade called the Columbus neighborhood that President Obama visited yesterday, "Sharon Heights."

"Microphone in hand in town hall-style, the President spoke and took questions from a small crowd sitting at picnic tables in the backyard of architect Joe Weithman, his wife, Rhonda, and their two children in the tree-lined, residential Columbus neighborhood of Sharon Heights. The family benefited on more than one front from the $787 billion economic stimulus package that Mr. Obama pushed through Congress last year almost exclusively with Democratic votes."

E. Kanawha Avenue? ...That is Sharon Heights, Clintonville area... Zillow refers to it as Sharon Heights

Monday all of the local news I heard called the area that the President would visit "Clintonville" .... my office was all concerned on Monday about traffic west of interstate 71 Oakland Park and E. North Broadway ... which is Clintonville.

Where does Clintonville begin or end? South of the sign in the image above.  The sign welcoming you to Clintonville is at the south end of Worthington

High St. Columbus OH 43214 - Sharon Heights neighborhood.

It's that time again, next week Central Ohio starts going back to school. I understand one southeast Columbus suburb is already in school.  I have links on my website to schools in northern Franklin County and southern Delaware County, the market I work on my website:

Comparing Central Ohio schools

Columbus Win-Winn Agreement the history of "Win -Win" in Central Ohio schools

Worthington Schools are not included  more about the "Win-Win" agreement

Delaware County Back to School 2010

* It's complicated! Franklin County has some huge school districts and not all students in all grades may start on the same day.  Columbus has some year round schools.  These are the largest public school districts in the area I work in, northern Franklin County and southern Delaware County.

Bob's Bar... The Cultural Hub of the Midwest

Bob's Bar High St. Columbus - The Cultural Hub of the MidwestI have a listing right near Bob's Bar the self proclaimed 'Cultural Hub of the Midwest ' but I never thought I would actually go into Bob's Bar....  for so many reasons.  I was surprised when a co-worker sent the whole office an email on Friday morning saying "be there or be square"  about Bob's Bar.

The "be there or be square" was about meeting at the north Columbus bar for happy hour.

I have a picture of the Bob's Bar sign in a previous post about my listing at 301 Girard Rd. Columbus OH 43214.  Bob's Bar is walking distance to that home. An easy walk.

Why I never thought I would ever actually go to Bob's Bar?  Why I never thought I would actually set foot in  Bob's Bar...  "The Cultural Hub of the Midwest"

  1. I don't go to "bars"
  2. I am not a beer drinker.
  3. A series of funny YELP reviews. The YELP reviews made me expect a dirty place with snotty, immature clientele and bad service.

Here's just a snippet of one of the funniest YELP reviews of a Columbus business...  Melanie a 20 Something who has reviewed Bob's Bar three times on Yelp wrote:

"Every thirty-something on the north side whose biological clock is about to explode and / or who is recently divorced or cheating seems to hang out here.  I have only encountered skeezy people at this bar and all of them have bad taste in music. "

That is just a small piece of one of Melanie's funny reviews of Bob's Bar.  I wish I would have reread it before I went I could have looked for "skeezy people", I would have listened for those clocks ticking...  I worried I would feel very, very old at Bob's Bar...

Bob's Bar is at 4961 N. High St. Columbus Ohio 43214.  It is just south of Graceland, north of Morse Road.

I was pleasantly surprised by Bob's Bar.  Only five of us showed up.  The rest of the Real Living HER Worthington office are squares? To be fair it  was the second "Happy Hour" with the office we were invited to this week.  The first was in Powell...which while nice is certainly not The Cultural Hub of the Midwest.

Delawanda Park neighborhood the best of all worlds

Clintonville businesses don't judge a marquee by it's cover another funny YELP review of a N. High St. business... YELP calls it a "Clintonville business."

Pita Hut on N. High Street

Pita Hut N Grille N. High St. Columbus OH 43214Pita Hut or I guess it is Pita Hut N Grille is right next door to Bob's Bar.  I got a twofer Friday evening.  I met some co-workers at  Bob's Bar,   "The Cultural Hub of the Midwest" for "happy hour" on Friday.  There were only 5 of us who went to Bob's Bar.  The "be there or be square" was not a big enough challenge for most in our Worthington office.  Only two of us went to Pita Hut.

The hungry ones.

Pita Hut N Grille is at 4965 N. High St. Columbus Ohio 43214.  The north Columbus area might be referred to as the "Clintonville Beechwold area" or Sharon Heights.  The residential areas nearby are Delawanda Park and Old Beechwold.  This not so pretty strip mall is just south of Graceland Shopping Center.

I took the photo of Pita Hut N Grille when I listed a house at  301 Girard Rd. Columbus Ohio 43214 which is nearby, walking distance.  I had never eaten at Pita Hut before...  I should have taken a photo of my food with my cell phone Friday night.  What kind of a poor excuse for a blogger am I?  I am not a food blogger, obviously.  I had the kebab sandwich and fries.   My friend had a falafel sandwich.

I don't eat bread but I am very shy about asking if I can order a sandwich without bread especially the first time I eat in a restaurant. Especially if it is an ethnic restaurant, I don't usually ask if I can order a sandwich without bread or ask how things are prepared.  There were forks!!!  The people at the restauarnt were very nice...  I guess I should have just ordered kebabs no worries about bread.

When I ordered a Diet Coke...  the man waiting on me did not say "Pepsi no Coke"  ;- (

Pita Hut N Grille describes it' self as "Fine Middle Eastern Cuisine."   I will go back.  It was OK.  It was fun.

More about the area:

Graceland Shopping Center  -  history

Sharon Heights everything turns out all right - recent history

The Delawanda -  a business on N. High  in the 1920s.  The Delawanda Park and Ride is where The Delawanda stood in the 1920s.  Wondering how wide the frontage  of the property was.  I wonder if this strip mall is on what was The Delawanda too.  I believe it was.

High St. Columbus Ohio 43214

The sign on the 5200 block of  High St. Columbus Ohio ... I'd call it Clintonville but that would just be wrong... ;- )   Even if  the sign up the road at the south end of Worthington says "Welcome to Clintonville."

The Pierce Cleaners sign on Hight Street today....

Pierce Cleaners Temp sign 8 5 2010

Pierce Cleaners is located at  5205 N. High St. Columbus Ohio 43214... That's Sharon Heights?

Here's a close up of the temporary sign...  today. The   Pierce Cleaners "We're Open" sign up now.  The Pierce Cleaners sign says "Our sign will be back soon!" and also says "The historical sign is out for restoration. "

Pierce Cleaners Temp sign 8 5 2010

The historical and witty Pierce Cleaners sign on High Street...  My photo was taken since the Taco Bell was built on the east side of the road... so it is within the last couple of years.  There is no snow but no leaves either...

Pierce Cleaners sign my photo

I am relieved to see officially that the Pierce Cleaners sign is being repaired.  Not that I doubted the word of a friend who is a Pierce Cleaners customer.  He heard that the historic and witty sign on High Street had been hit by a car and was being restored.   He heard it from a Pierce Cleaners employee.   I believed him.... but I love the temporary sign verifying the sign is recovering.

The Clintonville Beechwold area -  Sharon Heights according to some...

Clintonville conspiracy theory... Realtors changing borders

Clintonville Conspiracy theory...  Realtors changing Columbus borders.   Neighborhood borders... Creeping Clintonville borders blame real estate agents*

Delawanda a Clintonville Community sign

A comment on a post about the Delawanda Park neighbors says:

" I think that Delawanda Park is a Delawanda Park community. It's significantly North of the Clintonville recognized by non-Realtor™s.

Welcome to Clintonville sign at Worthington lineConspiracy in the Clintonville area of Columbus

Isn't it REALTORS® ?  Or Realtors®?  Or is "non-Realtors" trademarked???

A Realtor is a member of a trade organization....  There is CBR, OAR or NAR?  Was this the job of the Columbus Board of Realtors®?  The Ohio Association of Realtors®  Or does this go all the way to the top?  Did the National Association of Realtors® work to put a sign at the Worthington Columbus City line  welcoming people to Clintonville?

Did members of the National Association of REALTORS® erect the sign on Rathbone Rd.  welcoming people to "Delawanda a Clintonville Community?"  Or were citizens of the community responsible for the sign in their community?

Was the "Welcome to Clintonville" sign on High Street  at the south end of the city of Worthington erected by Realtors®? I believe this sign was placed there by the City of Columbus rather than "Realtors."   I believe the sign welcoming people to Clintonville is on around the corner of High St. and W. Stanton.... north of Delawanda Heights, Tremont Gardens*, Sharon Heights, etc.  Chaseland on the east side of High St. is a  city of Columbus neighborhood.

Tremont Gardens is not in the City of Columbus.  The Tremont Garden neighborhood is in Sharon Township.

I believe the "Welcome to Clintonville" sign on High Street is just south of Walnut Grove Cemetery, High Street at W. Stanton...

Delawanda Park the neighbors....

High St. and Leland Ave.Delawanda Park is a Clintonville community.  Delawanda Park the neighborhood is west of High Street, south of Graceland, north of Old Beechwold, and east of a City of Columbus park called both Kenney Park and Delawanda Park. The park is along the Olentangy River.

Who are your neighbors in Delawanda Park:

Deer

Great Blue Heron

Bullfrog

I wondered if this white thing I saw on Girard Rd. was a salt lick...  Actually the white thing is in the strip of trees between the road at the back of Graceland Shopping Center and Girard Rd.  I resisted an impulse to lick it to see.... my other thought about what it looked like?  Oh never mind. salt lick
